Updated Letter

June 30, 2010

Happy fourth of July early,
I wanted to update you with our travels since about three weeks ago.
We have now officially completed our long drives and the speedometer stands at 9,800 miles traveled.  God has been so wonderful and gracious in the way that He was a great protector, leader, encourager and an intermediary in some places.  We are ever so great ful the use of great van that carried us many faithful miles, (and it had listen to several books on tape plus one CD of Gaither Home coming songs. We are well versed on various songs that actually have a great deal of meaning to my wife, granddaughter and I!)  We are now spiralling down into a time of some vacation days with friends and family.
We have had our interview with ABWE and we are set to go except for the $280 that is lacking in our support. Our budget is on skeleton funding.  So I realize this is Wed. and there will be prayer meetings  happening.  Would you bring this request before your church families.  I had mentioned that if we could divide our 22 churches into that $280 it could be a reachable number to attain.  God knows and I present it to our church families.
We also would like to raise some money to replace a car in Chile. That would be a $10-15,000 need.  This will be all according what God does.
We have been blessed to be with so many of you in the last few weeks.  You have blessed and served us bountifully.  Thank you for the hospitality and encouraging words.
A very special blessing for our Chilean church family is the giving of 3 financial gifts of$50,000 for the construction of our building.  We now have windows and doors on order and getting ready to be put in!!
God is working and are grateful to be working for you in Chile.
Our love and blessings to all,
Duane and Linda

June 17, 2010

Good afternoon to all from Duane and Linda in Geigertown Penna.
This note is update you on our travels and wonderful blessing, having been with many of you in your churches and homes.  I basically want to share some blessings and needs both in ministry and personally.
Linda and I have now travelled 7,800 miles without any incidents.  (Except for getting directions twisted around twice!)  We have had 17 wonderful times of sharing our ministry, sharing a challenge from God's Word and many hours of great conversations with many of you.  We have been blessed by your encouragement, your interest and your giving for our gas, meals and housing.  Remember as we have shared in each meeting, we are servicing as an extension of your local church ministry.  This has been our joy and blessing for over 20 years !  THANK YOU for the confidence and love you have shown to us.
We have been greatly blessed by three of our church families and some individuals that have sent the $5,000 that was needed for the purchase and installation of the windows.  The windows have now been measured and are under contract to be installed. Praise the Lord for using you to get us steps closer to occupying our building!  Once again THANK YOU!

This next week June 21st through the 27th we will be on the road to North Carolina, Maryland and then home to Pennsylvania.  This will end our long driving hours. We will then have three more meetings, a few vacation days with family and friends and then pack up for Chile. We will spend July 19-22 at ABWE'S Missionary Enrichment Conference.  Linda will spend 2 weeks with her mother in New Mexico putting 6 months of meals in her freezer and then fly to Chile on the 3rd of August. l will fly back on the 27th of July arriving the 28th in the morning.
`This brings me to our 4 present needs.  As I have share with many of you, God has been teaching me many principles, one of these is: "Give God time to work meanwhile  stay calm, quiet and confident"
Two personal needs are;
  • We need to recover $280 monthly support.  (Perhaps several churches could cover this need by small increase $10-12 dollars?)
  • We will need to replace our vehicle ( It was in an accident and has motor problems that the mechanic is not sure should be continued to be repaired.)  We are not desirous of purchasing a new car but just one that will be faithful.  We may start visiting  on a fairly constant basis a new church plant that is 5 hours south of Santiago,.  Cars are comparable in price to the States, so we think that $6,000 to 10,000 will get us into an early 2000 vehicle.  Since the financial crisis, we should be able to negotiate with private owners for used vehicles obtaining a better prices. We have been able to save $1,600 towards this goal.  So I mention this as many always tell me" if you don't tell us we won't know."

If  God works in a special way for either of  these two matters through anyone reading this letter, Linda and I already thank you and praise the Lord for meetings our needs through you!

Two ministry requests are:
  • The continued construction of our building, safety at the site, work groups to help with finishing the inside, finances to be provided and an occupancy permit to be approved.
  • The great need for teachers for the August,2010 semester and also the semester starting in March 2010.
Let me give you some information if anyone reading this is interested in coming to Santiago and serving as a short term missionary teacher at our Christian missionary kids school. It is  English speaking with pre-K through 12th grade classes.  Teaching certificates or licenses are not required.  We would like to encourage everyone to go through ABWE as AMPERs  (that stands for assistant missionary personnel).
I close this note quoting from Exodus 15:1&2- "Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord and spake, saying,' I will sing unto the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and the rider hath he thrown into the sea. (I picture this as the needs that are facing us.) The Lord is my (ours - Linda's and mine) strength and song  and he is become my salvation, he is my God I will prepare him an habitation; my father and I will exalt him.!!"
Thank you, you have been a blessing, are a blessing and know that the future holds blessings for all of us!
